Obituary of Scott A. Grove
Please share a memory of Scott to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Scott Alan Grove passed away on February 25th, 2023, at 58 years old after a long battle with cancer.
Scott was born on July 12th, 1964 to Hazel and Sid Grove in Redding, CA. His parent's employment in the Forest Service meant he moved around a lot growing up. The family lived in many small, rural towns in California and Oregon and Scott did small, rural town things with his two siblings Shellie and Stephen. After high school he joined the army and spent some time in Germany before leaving the armed forces and meeting the mother of his two children.
After a divorce, Scott was solely a hard-working single dad to his two young kids Emely and Elliott Grove for many years. He worked long hours as a pressman in a Ukiah print shop to provide necessities for his children. The small family did not have expensive things or go on big vacations, but Scott was able to create a loving and fun home for them all to thrive and grow in together.
In 2007, Scott met and married Rena Grove who had two kids of her own, Rochelle and Kristian Thompson. The hastiness of the marriage and the fact that the kids were all different levels of angsty teenager should have made for a messy union and while it did take a short time to fully come together, the bonds made between the joining families have become more rock solid over time than any of us could have imagined.
Scott and Rena made for a great team in all aspects of each other's lives. While they did have a lot in common, they had some differing but complementary perspectives and philosophies that helped one or the other along in times of decision and turmoil. They started a thriving joint business together, bought a house, helped their children through their respective struggles and celebrated their accomplishments with fierce love and loyalty.
Scott was widely known in his small community as being kind, funny, hard-working and always willing to help others in need. He was the wise and steady cornerstone for his family, even through his own illness. His virtues were very important to him. He took his responsibility as a member or leader of his family, business and associations extremely seriously and strove to constantly better himself as an example to all who knew him. Those, of us, who did know him in this way truly understand how lucky we were to have him in our lives.
He loved sci-fi and fantasy, ESPN highlights, cranberry sauce, weekend dump runs, a lot of pretty bad music and some good music. He was always amazing with little kids and was overjoyed when he finally got a couple grandkids to play with when Landon and Harlan were born. He loved having a minivan he could fit his whole family in. Large coffee with four shots, playing cards, meaningful conversation, perfectly folded laundry and rearranging furniture. But most of all he loved his people and leaving us here without him was the hardest thing he ever had to do. We will remember and love him as long as we live and continue to live in a way that would make him as proud of us as he was the day he died.
The memorial service for Scott will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary on April 2nd at 2:00, followed by a gathering at the Yacht Club at 3:00 for all friends and family who wish to celebrate the memory of Scott's life.
